Our Program

Performing Ensembles

Towson High School music ensembles perform on the Winter and Spring concerts as well as the BCPS Assessment performances in March and the graduation performance in May/June. Students enrolled in an ensemble class are encouraged to audition for the Baltimore County All-Honors Chorus/Band/Orchestra, Maryland All-State, the BSO Side-by-Side Orchestra, and participate in the BCPS Solo and Ensemble Festival. Additional school and community performances are announced throughout the school year. These courses satisfy the Maryland State requirement of one (1) fine arts credit for graduation from high school.

General Music

Towson High School General Music Classes provide an option for students looking for an alternative to our performing ensembles. Typically, beginners with little or no experience enroll in standard level general music class. AP and Honors Music Theory courses are designed for advanced musicians seeking to expand their knowledge of theoretical music concepts as they apply to music performance and/or the College Board's AP Music Theory Exam. Although these classes are not considered "performing ensembles," students do perform in-class on a regular basis (at least once per month). These courses satisfy the Maryland State requirement of one (1) fine arts credit for graduation from high school.

Extra Curricular

Our extra curricular offerings help to supplement the great music education experience that happens in daily classes.

New Students

Join the THS Music Program!

As one of the longest-operating public high schools in the United States, Towson High School has about 1750 students and offers a wide variety of musical opportunities. About 40% of our student body is enrolled in a music class, which is a great indicator of the 5-star tradition of excellence of our school.

Students can sign up for a performing ensemble class if they have previous experience in orchestra, band or choir. General music classes are offered to students with little or no musical experience and/or those students looking for an opportunity to learn guitar, piano, or discover music & audio technology. AP and Honors Music Theory prepares students to succeed on the College Board exam in May.

Additionally, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular groups including Marching Band, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Percussion Coalition, Musicals, Disney World trips, and a variety of other events.

So, come join our program, get involved, and lets make music together!
